Spoon University - Photographer
CHAARG - UMD Chapter
UMD Biology Department - Undergraduate Learning Assistant

Spoon University is a student run organization on campus bringing college students together through the love of food. I love photography and am a huge foodie. So what better combination than to be a photographer for a food oriented organization! At UMD's chapter, we explore the various restaurants and food events in the D.C, Maryland, Virginia area. Whether it is looking for restaurant reviews, funny articles, or easy college friendly recipes, UMD's Spoon University has it all. I love how Spoon University can provide an outlet for students who are having a stressful day. Reading articles and watching creative videos have definitely brightened my day after long hours of studying. Taking photographs for articles is definitely what I always look forward to. UMD's Spoon University has definitely given me the wonderful opportunity to share my love of food and photography with others.

CHAARG is a fitness and health organization striving to "liberate girls from the elliptical". It encourages women to work out and live a healthy lifestyle. I enjoy going to the gym and have been wanting to focus on fitness. However, having that motivation to get up to go to the gym or to cook a well-balanced meal is often hard. CHAARG has provided me with a supportive community of women who want to work towards the same healthy and fit lifestyle. Being a part of CHAARG has built my self-confidence to work out. CHAARG is not just a community focusing on fitness, it is also a group I can always count on for anything. There is a huge sense of Girl Power which I believe is extremely important in our society today.

It is currently my third semester as an undergraduate learning assistant (ULA) for BSCI170 (Basic Principles of Biology). I work closely with many students to help them understand certain topics and processes through hands on activities. The activities portion of the class was created to give students a different approach on how to fully comprehend and understand the material. After taking this class my Sophomore year, I knew I wanted to be an ULA. As an ULA, I have many responsibilities such as preparing and grading activities. With my previous experience as a student tutor, I felt well prepared to take on this similar role. The role of an ULA has given me many opportunities to meet students who are freshly adapting to college life. Many students feel intimidated getting involved in campus. Connecting with these younger students has not only made me feel like a mentor for BSCI170, but also in college. The relationships with these students is something I will cherish.
